A dog was found in the rubble of a building destroyed in Moore, Okla., guarding its owner who had died.

The Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Department sent out a photo of a black dog in the wreckage of a building.

“The dog was standing guard over a deceased individual, possibly it’s owner, in Moore following the tornado there. The dog was taken to a shelter and the deputy who found the pup, if possible, plans on adopting the dog. Man’s best friend to the end,” reads a Facebook posting from the sheriff’s department.

An EF-5 tornado tore through Moore on Monday, killing 24 people. The National Weather Service estimates that the tornado had wind speeds in excess of 200 miles per hour.

While on live television, an elderly woman was shown trying to find her dog that went missing in the tornado.

“I thought God just answered one prayer, to let me be OK, but he answered both of them,” Barbara Garcia said, according to CBS News. “Because this was my second prayer.”
