The Los Angeles Dodgers have signed outfielder Andre Ethier to a five-year $85 million extension, according to a report on the team’s website.

The deal will keep Ethier, who was actually acquired in 2005 by current general manager Ned Colletti as his first trade with the Dodgers, through the year 2017.

The deal is also the first extension handed out by the new ownership group, which bough the Dodgers this spring for a cool $2 billion.

“Today is one of the starting points to let you guys know that they are going to do their best over the course of the next couple of months and next year to make a championship a reality,” Ethier said.

The two-time All-Star Ethier is hitting .287 with 10 home runs and 53 RBIs through 61 games this season.
