ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.—Shen Yun Performing Arts was warmly received by audience members at Popejoy Hall, which is located on the campus of the University of New Mexico, on the evening of March 6.

Hy Tran, a project lead at Sandia National Laboratories, a major U.S. Department of Energy research and development laboratory, attended the performance with his daughter.

He learned about Shen Yun from a flyer. He said that at first he thought he wouldn’t be able to attend because the performance was in the middle of the week and his children are in school. “But then at the last minute, we said, ‘Maybe we should try to go.’ And so we came,” he said.

He was glad he did.

“It’s very good; we’re very impressed,” he said. “They’re so talented.”

Shen Yun Performing Arts is a New York-based classical Chinese music and dance company that tours 100 cities worldwide with an all-new production each year; its mission is to revive traditional Chinese culture.

A Shen Yun performance includes a collection of pieces, each no longer than 10 minutes, that recount ancient myths and legends as well as modern stories of courage.

As soon as the curtain opened for the first piece, which is entitled Descending to the World, Mr. Tran was enthralled.

“I was amazed with the fog, the clouds, and the dancers all sitting in the fog, and the background of Heaven,” he said, adding that it was magnificent.

He added, “It was a lovely vision—a very beautiful vision. And then the very, very graceful dancing, [blending] very well with the music. It goes together very well.”

Mr. Tran said that he also enjoyed the stories portrayed, and he appreciated the emcees because they “tell us a little bit about the story and then we can use our imagination to put in the details.”

“We would like for all of our children to see this and experience something like this,” he said.
