Pittsburgh Pirates v New York Mets

Mets pitcher R.A. Dickey struck out 13 Pirates Thursday in leading the Mets (72-84) to a 6–5 win over Pittsburgh (76-80) at Citi Field.

Dickey (20-6) got the win, going seven and two-thirds innings allowing three runs on eight hits, while walking two, in his 128-pitch effort. The 37-year-old tied his season’s best with 13 strikeouts and the 128 pitches represented his longest effort of the season.

Dickey became the first Met to win 20 games since Frank Viola in 1990. It took a comeback by New York to do so though.

After Dickey allowed a pair of runs in the second and a solo shot in the fourth the Mets trailed 3–1 heading into the bottom of the fourth.

An RBI single by Hairston pulled the Mets to within one. In the fifth, Daniel Murphy tied the score with an RBI single which was followed by a David Wright three-run home run to put the Mets up 6–3.
