HARPER WOODS, Mich.—Yelling and shoving by crowds awaiting the release of Nike Air Jordan shoes forced the temporary closure of a Detroit-area mall.

The Detroit Free Press and WDIV-TV report that the 8 a.m. Saturday rush was at the Kids Footlocker store at Eastland Center in Harper Woods.

Eastland Center general manager William McClure tells the Detroit Free Press the same problems occurred two hours later.

McClure said “both times, it was shut down by the police for public safety ... all over a tennis shoe.”

Two people were shot and wounded Saturday morning as dozens waited outside a Foot Locker in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota, to buy new Air Jordan shoes.

A scuffle also broke out at a Madison, Wisconsin, mall among a crowd waiting to buy the sneakers.
