A standoff that saw a gunman barricade himself inside a home in Detroit ended early Monday, Feb. 12, with four people dead and three police officers wounded.
The gunman was among the dead.
Smith fired shots around 10:30 p.m. on Sunday night. Within 10 minutes, police officers arrived on scene and came under fire, during which one officer was wounded.
Smith ultimately killed his girlfriend and two of her friends who had gone to the home to help with a domestic situation, officers said.
A male inside the house was also shot but survived.
Two other officers were wounded during the ensuing standoff.
All officers were shot in their legs, although all are considered minor injuries.
The standoff ended after about 14 hours, when police entered the home and found four bodies and the wounded man. Robots preceded the officers, and located the four bodies.
