A large fire is consuming the Chemical Technology Inc. building on Detroit’s east side on Mount Elliot, it was reported. White Elementary School on Charles Street was evacuated.
Officials declared a level 3 HAZMAT but no evacuations were implemented, reported ClickonDetroit. A level 3 HAZMAT situation means that the incident can pose a serious threat to life, property, or the environment.
White Elementary School is located around a mile from the fire.
According to the Detroit Free-Press, firefighters are on the scene.
The fire and smoke can be seen for several miles.
