Director of It’s Complicated –Nancy Meyers, is well known for her beautiful houses and sets in her movies. The house in It’s Complicated is certainly no exception. Ms. Meyers described this house as “an extension of character,” –an excellent way to put it.
Everything in Jane’s (Meryl Streep’s) life seems to be complicated –but that doesn’t mean her house is. Jane is determined to make the most of what she has, and her home is a wonderful extension of herself –a collection of everything inviting, beautiful, and practical –with some beautiful Tuscan inspiration thrown in.
The house is inspired by a real Spanish style home in Thousand Oaks California. Although the interior was recreated in studio –the layout of the home was inspired by the interior of the real home. The result? A spectacular space that’s perfect for entertaining, talking with friends, or spending time with the family.
Let’s take a look inside this beautiful home…
Kitchen
As a baker, Jane’s kitchen is the center of her universe. The design is rustic, with an old world farmhouse feel. There’s the rustic table, the open shelf design, white tableware, and an old-fashioned pot rack full of beautiful stainless steel and copper pans. White artichokes, silver pendant lights, and linen table runners, complete the look.
Living Room
As much as the kitchen is a part of Jane’s life, the dining and living room areas are too. Ideal for entertaining or chatting with friends, the living room features earthy tones and warm colors. We see the rustic Tuscan theme carried over into this living space, with beautiful exposed wooden rafters, rustic wood, and wicker details throughout. Natural materials are a mainstay in this room, with linen making a regular appearance. Bright orange and a touch of green help to offset the look.
Bedroom
The rustic theme carries into the bedroom, where soft tones and classic details help to create a calm, and relaxing atmosphere. An old fashioned chest, an upholstered headboard, a bench at the foot of the bed, along with mismatched side tables help to create a comfortable, yet charming atmosphere.
