INDIANTOWN, Fla.—Authorities say a central Florida deputy shot and killed a bull after it trampled a rancher.

Treasure Coasts Newspapers reports that the 24-year-old man called 911 Monday morning, telling dispatchers that the bull had injured him and was pushing him into a pond.

A Martin County Sheriff’s Office report says deputies responded to the Indiantown pasture and found a black bull standing over a large pond. A sheriff’s sergeant shot the bull three times, killing it.

Deputies found the injured man in the pond. He told deputies the bull stomped on his body and head.

Authorities say the man was airlifted to a Fort Pierce hospital. His condition wasn’t immediately known.
