Within the last week, the sons of two celebrities took their own lives in struggles related to depression.

Michael Blosil, 18, son of singer and entertainer Marie Osmond leapt out of his apartment window to his death in Los Angeles on Saturday. Two days earlier, the body of missing actor Andrew Koenig, 41, the son of Star Trek actor Walter Koenig, was found dead in a park in Vancouver.

“My family and I are devastated and in deep shock by the tragic loss of our dear Michael and ask that everyone respect our privacy during this difficult time,” Ms. Osmond said in a statement.

Blosil was found Friday after leaving a note saying he intended to kill himself due to a long battle with depression that made him feel as if he had no friends, celebrity news television program “Entertainment Tonight” reported.

Ms. Osmond had been headlining with her brother Donny at a Las Vegas variety show. The siblings had rose to fame in the 1970s as recording artists and hosts of their own television show. Most recently, they both claimed the national spotlight with competitive runs in the hit show “Dancing with the Stars,” in which Mr. Osmond was crowned winner.

Andrew Koenig was most known as a supporting actor on the 1980s sitcom “Growing Pains,” in which he portrayed the childhood friend to Kirk Cameron’s character. He later went on to do small roles on television as well as performing standup comedy.

His father Walter Koenig, who portrayed Lieutenant Pavel Chekov in the original Star Trek TV series, announced at a press conference that his son’s body had been found after family and friends did a sweep of the Vancouver park where his son was last seen.

“Our son took his own life. He was obviously in a lot of pain,” said Mr. Koenig, urging people suffering from depression to not ignore the condition and seek help.
