Here’s some of the latest Denver Broncos rumors and news for the week.

Colin Kaepernick Harder Opponent than Peyton Manning?

A report from MMQB says that a number of coaches would prefer game-planning to play against Peyton Manning over San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick.

“At last year’s combine, just a few weeks after the Super Bowl, I asked a dozen NFL coaches, Conceptually, who would you rather game-plan for and face: Manning or Kaepernick? A solid majority said they'd prefer to face Manning,” the report said. “Wow. A man who many—and especially those inside the NFL—agree is one of the five greatest quarterbacks of all time feels less threatening to opponents than a callow fourth-year pro who is still not always comfortable reading the field.”

It adds that none of the coaches said Kaepernick is a better quarterback, but he’s “more stressful” to play against.

“Manning might be able to cut a defense with greater depth and regularity than Kaepernick, but at least the defense knows in what ways he can cut them. With Kaepernick, there’s a terrifying unpredictability,” it adds.

Julius Thomas playing for next contract

Broncos tight end Julius Thomas, who leads the NFL with 9 touchdown catches, is on the final year of his rookie contract, which means that next year will be interesting.

“Your job as an athlete is to show people, ‘Hey, I’ll prove you wrong or I‘ll exceed your expectations,’ ” Thomas told USA Today. “That’s my mindset.”

He added that he gets “confused” sometimes with the complexity of Denver’s offense.

“The tight end position in our offense, you do a lot. You’re in a ton of different spots on the field, and you have to know them all. Sometimes, through the myriad of different plays and things that we do, I might get confused a little bit, (Manning) might get confused, but we know we enjoy playing with each other and don’t take it personal at all,” Thomas added. “He expects me to execute. He knows I know what to do and that I need to be held accountable for that.”

Terrence Knighton fined

Broncos defensive tackle Terrence Knighton said he was fined for using a racial slur against the New York Jets last week.

“I know the rules, and the league said they were going to enforce it this year ... It was me arguing with four guys on their team, and they were using the same language I was using,” said Knighton, according to the Denver Post.

He was flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct in the game for the alleged slurs.

“I was rubbing it in a little bit after we scored, because (the Jets) were doing a lot of chatting, and when Von got hit on their sideline, they were cheering. That upset me. And when we scored, I let them hear about it,” he added.

CJ Spiller to Broncos?

There’s been rumors going around that Buffalo Bills running back CJ Spiller might be traded to Denver.

Several teams, including Denver, “may feel as if they are all set in their offensive backfield, although all of them could use a bit of a boost due to recent injuries,” writes Boston Superblog.

“The Broncos are without Montee Ball for a few more games, while the Panthers are always watching Deangelo Williams or Jonathan Stewart limp or hobble off of the field. Finally, the Patriots just found out that Stevan Ridley is lost for the season,” it adds.
