Demi Lovato Shares First Message to Social Media After Reported Overdose

Singer Demi Lovato has sent out her first message on social media almost two weeks after she was hospitalized from a drug overdose.

On Aug. 5, Lovato posted an all-text message to Instagram to some 70.7 million followers:

“I have always been transparent about my journey with addiction. What I’ve learned is that this illness is not something that disappears or fades with time. It is something I must continue to overcome and have not done yet,” the message reads.

The 25-year-old singer was found unconscious at her home on July 24 and was rushed to hospital where she was treated with Narcan, an emergency treatment for suspected opioid and drug overdoses.

Lovato expressed gratitude to her fans, close family, and the staff at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, where she has been staying.

“I want to thank God for keeping me alive and well. To my fans, I am forever grateful for all of your love and support throughout this past week and beyond. Your positive thoughts and prayers have helped me navigate through this difficult time.

“I want to thank my family, my team, and the staff at Cedars-Sinai who have been by my side this entire time. Without them I wouldn’t be here writing this letter to all of you.

The singer concludes by letting her followers know of what’s to come, and of her hopes for the future.

“I now need time to heal and focus on my sobriety and road to recovery. The love you have all shown me will never be forgotten and I look forward to the day where I can say I came out on the other side.

“I will keep fighting,” Lovato wrote.

Lovato plans to go into rehab at a drug treatment center after she is discharged from hospital, a source told US Weekly.
