Chicago Cubs general manager Jed Hoyer made his first player acquisition on Wednesday, bringing outfielder David DeJesus to the Windy City in a two-year deal with an option for a third year. Hoyer said on the Cubs website he expects DeJesus to be the club’s regular right fielder, not a platoon player.

DeJesus, a Brooklyn native, spent last season with the Oakland Athletics but eight prior seasons with the Kansas City Royals. His services were in high demand in 2010 as the lefty hit .318, a career high. His season ended early after a thumb injury after the 2010 All-Star Break. His production in 2011 dipped, batting only .240 in 131 games.

“We feel very good that he'll come into Chicago and bounce back,” Hoyer said on the Cubs website.
