Thousands of illegal immigrants have been expelled from the country, but Homeland Security head Alejandro Mayorkas says thousands more illegal Haitian immigrants are being released into the United States. He said on Sunday, “About 4,000 actually have been expelled under the public health authority of the Centers for Disease Control. There are about 13,000 that are in immigration court proceedings.” He says they’re following the law as Congress passed it, and that reform is needed.

A lot is at stake on Capitol Hill this week. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi wants Democrats to pass two huge packages: the nearly $1 trillion bipartisan infrastructure bill and the $3.5 trillion spending bill. Sen. Pat Toomey (R-Pa.) said Sunday, “If you spend more, you will have to borrow more. And the Democrats want to spend vastly more, so they are driving up the need for still more debt in the future to cover all the spending they want to engage in.” That’s in addition to Congress needing to fund the federal government past Thursday at midnight, or else there will be a partial government shutdown.

And one area that’s seen a massive spike amid the lockdown is the rise in surveillance and data collection as people switched to working at home. Market research firm Gartner finds that the number of large employers using tools to track their workers has doubled since the beginning of the pandemic to 60 percent. That number is expected to rise to 70 percent within the next three years.
