It is now abundantly clear that America needs to scrap its modern political debate format where a moderator precedes each of their questions with a monologue describing their version of the truth. We should revert to the format used in the Lincoln–Douglas debates where each candidate spoke for an extended period of time and in the process posed questions to their opponent, who took notes so each issue would be addressed when it was their turn to speak. There was no moderator—only a timekeeper.
Sincerely,
Vincent Page
