Dayton Gessell, a 15-year-old, shot 12-year-old Taylor Wheeler and then shot himself, but South Jordan, Utah police don’t know whether it was an accident or not.
“At this point we don’t know if it was intentional or accidental, that’s part of the investigative process,” South Jordan Police Sgt. Sam Winkler told Deseret News.
The two teens were found dead on November 15 inside a home on West Pine Canyon Way that neither of them lived at. Three other teens, including two brothers who lived at the home, were present at the time.
Winkler said the investigation is “very active” and “ongoing.”
More interviews and the final medical examiner’s report are among the actions that remain.
Taylor’s mother, Charlé Meier, told the Salt Lake Tribune that the two teens “were just boys.” A vigil was held for them last Sunday evening. More than 100 people showed up.
“We don’t know what happened in there,” said Shawn Graham, Dayton’s uncle.
