David Waddell, a councilman in Indian Trail in North Carolina, has sparked interest by submitting a resignation letter in the Star Trek language of Klingon.

In the Star Trek universe, Klingon is an alien warrior race.

Waddell sent the letter to Indian Trail Mayor Michael Alvarez, using the language as an inside joke, he told the Charlotte Observer.

He also included a translation of the language using Bing.com.

“Folks don’t know what to think of me half the time,” said Waddell, so “I might as well have one last laugh” on the board.

Alvarez, though, was not amused, calling it “an embarrassment” for Indian Trail and North Carolina.

Waddell resigned because he was frustrated with what he views as outsized development in the town, and over the way requests for public information was handled.

Waddell is a plumber.

He said he'll go to board meeting after resigning on January 31 but as a citizen, and also plans to do a write-in campaign in the Constitution Party for the U.S. Senate seat currently occupied by Kay Hagan.
