Danna Paola, the young Mexican actress and singer, will star in a “The Bodyguard” remake called “Saving Sara Cruz,” which will start filming this year.

Paola’s Hollywood debut comes after a range of work including starring as Elphaba in the Spanish-language version of “Wicked..”

Paola reportedly “stole” the role from Selena Gomez, who auditioned for it, reported Spanish-language media outlets. Gomez has increasingly been working on getting her acting profile up and was the early favorite for the role.

Paola began acting when she was four and was in the Mexican version of “Sesame Street.”

The original version “The Bodyguard” starred Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner.
