BUENOS AIRES—The “Shen Yun” of Shen Yun Performing Arts literally translates as: “The beauty of divine beings dancing,” according to the company’s website.

After seeing Shen Yun presented at Teatro Ópera Citi, Mrs. Luz Sassoli, a tango dancer, said she saw an extremely high level of artistry throughout the performance.

“What Shen Yun transmits, I love it, because it reaches me like something that allows you to enter into a particular world,” she said. “It’s like a dream-like sensation.”

Shen Yun merges four main components into its performances that have been hailed around the world as the best the respective viewers have ever seen.

At the core is classical Chinese dance, which “is grounded in 5,000 years of divinely inspired culture, and is a dance art form built upon a deep foundation of traditional aesthetics,” says the company’s website.

“Other than complete training in the fundamentals, it also entails systematic training in movements and postures, as well as very difficult jumping and tumbling techniques. And so, alongside ballet, classical Chinese dance is one of the most comprehensive dance systems in the world,” the company states.

Yet the art form is accentuated even more by handmade, silk costumes; digital backdrops; and an orchestra that combines both classical Western and traditional Chinese instruments, like the pipa, a Chinese lute that has been in existence for thousands of years.

Mrs. Sassoli found the interaction between all these elements to be “perfectly amalgamated.”

“I think it’s divine; I think it’s impeccable, really,” she added. “A pleasure—A pleasure to the ear, to all senses.”

Being a dancer herself, Mrs. Sassoli was struck by the high level of dance seen in Shen Yun.

When she recommends the performance to others, she will describe what Shen Yun means.

“It means divine bearing,” she said, “and I think that defines everything.”
