The Dallas Cowboys may be 4-8 and out of the playoff picture this season, but that will not stop America’s Team from trying to spoil the season of their NFC East rivals, the 8-4 Philadelphia Eagles.
Despite a roster riddled with injuries, the Cowboys have rebounded nicely from a pitiful 1-7 record, winning three of their last four games since former head coach Wade Phillips was fired.
But Cowboys interim head coach Jason Garrett may face a challenge unlike ever before in his young stint as head honcho—the Philadelphia Eagles and their not-so-secret weapon: high-flying quarterback and MVP candidate Michael Vick.
Vick is turning heads with a masterful stretch of games since replacing Kevin Kolb as Eagles starting QB earlier in the season.
In just nine games, Vick is bound to garner MVP consideration with his 105.7 QB rating, as he has thrown for 15 touchdowns, rushed for 6 more, and averaged 249 passing yards per game for the NFC East-leading Eagles. The former Atlanta Falcon had been putting on a clinic of not turning over the football through the air up until week 12, when he threw his first interception of the year.
But if the Cowboys have their offense going, the game could be a lot closer than the two teams’ records show. Last week, the Cowboys running game accounted for 217 yards, and Dallas dropped 38 points on the Super Bowl runner-up Indianapolis Colts.
And in spite of Tony Romo’s injury, his replacement Jon Kitna has not been doing that bad himself, putting up a solid 107.9 QB rating with seven passing touchdowns in the past four games, including matches against a tough Giants defense as well as against the reigning Super Bowl champion New Orleans Saints.
For the past two years, the Eagles have come into Arlington and lost. With their speedy talent and Dallas’ injuries, this year might be the year that Vick and the Eagles would finally win at $1.3 billion Cowboys Stadium.
