In a fresh attempt to have a solution sealed to the division of Cyprus, U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon visited Cyprus on Monday urging leaders to reach a solution.

The two leaders of the Island country, Turkish Cypriot leader Mehmet Ali Talat and Greek Cypriot President Demetris Christofias, have been in unfruitful negotiations since September 2008.

Although the U.N. has been involved in attempting to resolve the conflict for decades, Ban Ki-moon stressed that the responsibility lies with the leaders. Turkish forces invaded the island in 1974, in response to an apparent Greek coup trying to make the island part of Greece. The last peace talks, held in 2004, failed.
