The Chicago Cubs beat their cross-town rival White Sox at Wrigley Field Thursday, 6–5, with a thrilling walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth with two outs.

Reed Johnson singled to center to start the inning off. Then, Andres Blanco put down a sacrifice bunt to move Johnson over, putting the winning run in scoring position.

Aaron Miles ground out to short and fans thought they might be in for extra innings, but Alfonso Soriano hit a single to right center field, driving in Johnson for the winning run.

Cubs fans thought it would be another dismal day for their offense until the bottom of the 8th inning. The White Sox were leading 5–1 until Derrek Lee belted a three-run homer, revitalizing the Wrigley Field crowd.

The next batter, Geovany Soto, followed up with his own solo shot, tying the game at five.

Closer Kevin Gregg came in for the Cubs in the top of the 9th, allowing no runs and only one hit to set up the electrifying finish.

Thursday’s game was one of two games selected for the MLB.com At Bat 2009 application for iPhone and iTouch users. This application now allows users to stream live MLB games in the palm of their hands.

This week marks the first MLB games ever to be aired live in streaming video to a mobile device.

The Cubs split what should have been a three-game series with their Windy City rival, since Tuesday’s game was postponed due to rain. No make up date has been set.

The Cubs will face the White Sox at U.S. Cellular Field for a three-game series starting June 26th.
