The Chicago Cubs have signed 20-year-old free agent Cuban outfielder Jorge Soler to a nine-year deal worth $30 million according to a report on Major League Baseball’s website that cites an industry source.

The Cubs have yet to comment, according to the report.

Soler, listed at 6 feet 4 inches and weighing 220 pounds, is currently a corner outfielder. He was just declared a free agent last week by MLB and had to sign before July 2 or be subjected to the new Basic Agreement guidelines, which will limit spending on international prospects to $2.9 million per team without penalty.

Other teams that were reportedly in the bidding war for Soler’s services were the Yankees, Blue Jays, White Sox, Marlins, Phillies, Orioles, and Red Sox.
