After an unexpected five-day opening reaching $34.7 million over the weekend, the movie “Crazy Rich Asians” has received praise from the public, and even some very high-profile fans.
Actress Emma Watson wrote on her Twitter account, “✨? Went to see my #TimesUp sisters @ConstanceWu and @gemma_chan in #CrazyRichAsians today. Their performances were pitch perfect! Love you both so much. ?”
As the first rom-com to open with more than $20 million since 2015’s “Trainwreck,” according to Moviefone, it seems like “Crazy Rich Asians” has become a recent favorite in the industry.

“Guardians of The Galaxy” star Chris Pratt wrote in a tweet, “Theatre was packed for #crazyrichasians,” and the movie “blew his socks off.” He also added that he hasn’t seen “a movie that good in a long, long time.”

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson also joined in the fun. He tweeted a photo of himself and CRA’s director Jon M. Chu, calling the film “brilliant and defining.”

According to Variety, even though the blockbuster has just opened, its sequel is said to be currently in development at Warner Bros.

Variety also reported that Chu will direct again, along with the original creative team, including screenwriter Peter Chiarelli and Adele Lim, and producers Nina Jacobson, Brad Simpson and John Penotti.

“Crazy Rich Asians” is the first studio film since 1993’s “Joy Luck Club” to feature nearly all Asian-Americans.
