Courtney Cash, the niece of Johnny Cash, was found dead on Thursday near Nashville, Tennessee.
Courtney was murdered at her home, which is about 70 miles west of Nashville.
Her boyfriend was injured and taken to the Vanderbilt Hospital.
Details are pending but a suspect has been taken into custody.
Tommy Cash, who is Courtney’s grandfather, said in a statement:
“We ask for you prayers for the Cash family at this time. Courtney and her boyfriend are beloved members of my family and like you, we have a lot of questions and emotions that we are beginning to sort through today.”
“As we handle the loss of my granddaughter, pray for the father of my great grandchild and journey through the search for justice on this violent act. We are completely heartbroken.”
