Nicholas and Rafaela Ordaz recently celebrated 82 years of marriage with their family and friends, and they shared secrets behind their successful relationship:

“Respect, affection, and not sweating the small stuff.”

The California couple got married in 1934 at age 20 and have lived long enough to meet their grandchildrens’ grandchildren. That was when the U.S. was in the midst of the Great Depression and when Adolf Hitler was declared “Fuhrer” in Germany.

Meanwhile, Nicolas turned 102 last Friday.

There are only a few living couples in the world ahead of them with longer marriages.

The longest living couple is Karam and Katari Chand from Bradford, Lancashire—who have been together for nearly 90 years.

“We just get along with each other and we are family focused, its simple really,” Karam Chand told MailOnline. The couple tied the knot in 1925 after meeting in India as teenagers.

“We have always eaten good wholesome food, there’s nothing artificial in our diet but things like butter, milk and fresh yoghurt are what we like,” Katari Chand said, according to a report in 2014. “We know that being married for 86 years is a blessing, but equally we will be ready to go when it’s time.”

After the Chands are Zhang Mucheng and Xu Dongying, of Shanghai, who have been married 85 years.
