A man and woman from Bracebridge, Ont. have been arrested after they “accidentally left” $11,000 worth of drugs in a Guelph hotel room, police say.

The Guelph Police Service said in a Jan. 11 press release that officers were called on New Year’s Day to a north-end hotel, where staff reported that while cleaning a room, they had found a sock that appeared to be stuffed with controlled substances left behind by the guests.

Police said the sock contained quantities of suspected cocaine, fentanyl, heroin, and prescription opioids with an estimated value of $11,100.

On Jan. 10, a 34-year-old male and 31-year-old female, both from the Bracebridge area, were arrested by police in another jurisdiction and returned to Guelph.

The couple each faces five counts of possessing controlled substances for the purpose of trafficking. They were held to appear in a Guelph bail court on Jan. 11.
