Corey Johnson Wins NYC Council Race to Replace Quinn in Manhattan’s District 3

Corey Johnson won the race to replace City Council speaker Christine Quinn in Manhattan’s District 3 on Tuesday. 

Johnson soundly beat attorney Yetta Kurland with 61.96 percent of the vote versus 38.08 percent of the vote with all of the precincts reporting as of 12:12 a.m. on Wednesday.

Johnson is the chair of Community Board 4 and the director of the Hudson Yard Development Corporation, according to DecideNYC

Johnson has lived in Chelsea for the past decade and served on the community board since 2005, being elected as chair in 2011.

Kurland is a senior partner and civil rights attorney at the Kurland Group.
