LOS ANGELES—A state appeals court panel on Feb. 10 reversed the murder convictions of two women in connection with a shooting that left one man dead and another person wounded outside a Westlake District church a decade ago.

The three-justice panel from California’s 2nd District Court of Appeal noted in its opinion that the state legislature “substantially modified the law relating to accomplice liability for murder and attempted murder” while the appeals of Janeth Lopez, now 31, and Ivy Navarrete, now 40, were pending.
