NEW YORK—Officials broke ground on Manhattan’s largest affordable housing project on the far west side of Midtown on Monday. The project takes up most of the block between West 44th and 45th streets, and between 10th and 11th avenues.
The four building complex will contain 1,238 rental units, 600 of which are designated as permanent affordable housing. The complex will also feature a 200-space garage and 17,000 square feet of retail space, according to a press release. The Gotham Organization is the construction manager for the 550 W. 45th St. project, also known as Gotham West.
Gotham West is being built in the same area as Hudson Yards, a development with 20,000 rental units, 2 million square feet of retail space, and 3 million square feet of hotel space.
