An elementary school administrator in Greenwich, Connecticut, was captured in an undercover video boasting about how he refuses to hire Catholic or conservative teachers and how the teachers at his school subtly inject left-wing progressive ideology into their teaching.

In a video released by news organization Project Veritas, Jeremy Boland, assistant principal at Cos Cob Elementary School, revealed to an undercover journalist that he works to maintain a teaching force of primarily young, progressive people who will indoctrinate their students in a “subtle” way.

According to Boland, the teachers he hires “will never say, ‘Oh, this is [a] liberal or a Democratic way of doing this.’” Instead, they'll “make that the norm.”

“So, you kind of like, gear them to think in a more liberal way?” the Project Veritas journalist asked.

Boland responded, “Believe it or not, the open-minded, more progressive teachers are actually more savvy about delivering a Democratic message without really ever having to mention politics. So, it’s subtle.”

When asked if parents would ever find out about the indoctrination, he said, “[Parents] can find out, so long as you never mention the politics of it.”

During one exchange, Boland said it’s better to focus on hiring younger, progressive teachers than firing older, conservative teachers who have more years of service. He also said he won’t hire teachers who are unwilling to acknowledge a child’s gender preferences.

“So, if you have [a teacher] who is hardcore religious or hardcore conservative, they will probably say something detrimental to the effect, ‘Well, I don’t think kids have enough knowledge to make that decision [gender identity] at this age,’” Boland said. “You’re out. You’re done.”

Discriminatory Hiring

When the undercover journalist asked Boland to elaborate about picking out religious candidates, Boland said Protestants in the area are mostly liberal, but Catholics are typically conservative and therefore won’t get a job from him.

“So, would you ever hire a Catholic, then?” the journalist asked.

“No, I don’t want to,” Boland responded. “Because if someone is raised hardcore Catholic, it’s like they’re brainwashed. You can never change their mindset. So when you ask them to consider something new, like a new opportunity, or, ‘You have to think about this differently,’ they’re stuck—just rigid.”

The hiring process discussed in the video appears to violate Connecticut’s anti-discrimination law, which states that it’s illegal for employers to “refuse to hire or employ or to bar or to discharge from employment any individual ... because of the individual’s race, color, religious creed.”

Shortly after the video’s release, Greenwich Public Schools Superintendent Toni Jones sent a message to the district’s families saying that there will be an investigation.

“We were made aware of a video that had gone viral with a current administrator from Cos Cob School. We intend to do a full investigation and until that time, we will not make any public statements. We ask that you respect the investigation process during this time,” the message reads.

“We do not, however, support any opinions that promote discriminatory hiring practices based on race, religion, gender, or age in any way, and we want to remind our entire community that our curriculum policies and procedures are strictly enforced by our Board.”
