LOS ANGELES—Composer J.C. Dwyer attended Shen Yun Performing Arts Jan. 15 at Dorothy Chandler Pavilion. He and his partner at Megatrax Productions, Ron Mendelsohn, brought their families and friends, occupying 11 seats in the sold out performance.

Mr. Dwyer, who has been a composer for thirty years, said he was impressed with the Shen Yun New York Company Orchestra. “I love the music; it’s beautiful,” he said.

Megatrax Productions scores and composes music for movies and television, such as NBC’s Must See TV, Fox’s 30 Seconds to Fame, and feature film Carlo’s Wake.

Mr. Dwyer was pleased with the performance. He said, “I think the show is very beautiful and very enlightening. I am really enjoying it.” He also enjoyed the digital, animated backdrops.

“I love the screen,” he said. “It is very traditional Chinese. It’s beautiful.”

Shen Yun’s backdrops transport the audience to a world where “heaven and earth are one,” according to its website. Landscapes from the grasslands to mountains to cities, temples and mythical realms are shown in the different dances.

Shen Yun Performing Arts is a New York-based classical Chinese dance and music company. The artists try to “evoke the glory of an ancient civilization,” according to their website.

He was also impressed with the dancing, adding, “I love the dancing. I think it’s very athletic.”

He said that Shen Yun is a great way to teach people about Chinese culture.
