A slurry bomber drops a load of retardant to protect buildings from wildfire Wednesday near Boulder, Colorado. More than 6,000 acres have burned in the Fourmile Canyon fire, and over a thousand homes have been evacuated, with 136 destroyed.

Gov. Bill Ritter has declared a state of emergency, and the Boulder Office of Emergency Management said that the fire itself is days away from containment.
