Colorado Killer Chris Watts Receiving Love Letters in Jail

December 19, 2018 Updated: December 19, 2018

Chris Watts, who is serving a life sentence in prison after pleading guilty to killing his pregnant wife and two young daughters, is receiving love letters from female admirers.

Prosecutors released dozens of letters sent to the 33-year-old expressing intense emotions.

“In my heart, you are a great guy,” wrote a woman named Candace, reported ABC 11. “I’m hoping to brighten your days,” wrote another woman.

One of the women sent a picture of herself in a bikini.

Psychologist Dr. Judy Ho, co-host of “Face the Truth,” said that even the worst criminals have people who write to them, visit them, and even propose marriage.

“These women have created a fantasy life for themselves especially with their pretend relationship with these men behind bars,” she told Inside Edition.

“It is oftentimes what we talk about when women seem to be attracted by bad boys. It is because they want to be the special person that can turn this life around and be able to attribute that to their own self-esteem.”

Nikolas Cruz, who admitted to carrying out a mass shooting in Florida earlier this year, and Dylann Roof, who carried out a mass shooting in South Carolina in June 2015, are among the murderers who have also reportedly received fan mail.

In one case, a woman who grew close to Roof was arrested for buying materials she thought would be used to make a bomb.

Pleaded Guilty

Watts pleaded guilty in November to killing Shannan Watts, 34, who was 15 weeks pregnant, and their two young daughters, Bella, 4, and Celeste, 3, in August.

A Colorado judge sentenced Watts to five life sentences in prison on Nov. 19.

“Words that come to mind when I hear the evidence, in this case, are a senseless crime and the viciousness of the crime,” District Court Judge Marcelo Kopcow said.

In his 17th year as a judge, “This is perhaps the most inhumane and vicious crime that I have handled out of the thousands of cases that I have seen,” he added. “Nothing less than the maximum sentence would be appropriate.”

Shanann Watts’s father Frank Rzucek called Chris Watts’s “heartless” before the sentencing and said, “prison is too good for you.”

“May God have mercy on your soul,” he added. “You’re an evil monster.”

Officials described how Bella Watts fought for her life as her own father strangled her to death.

The Weld County coroner found blunt force trauma on the girl’s jaw, and lacerations, and contusions in her mouth. The autopsy also found teeth impressions and superficial bite marks on the surface of her tongue.

“She fought back for her life as her father smothered her,” Weld County prosecutor Michael Rourke told the court. “Imagine the horror in Bella’s mind as her father took her last breaths away.”
