President Barack Obama visited Colorado’s Mile High City, Denver, on Tuesday, as part of a national campaign to garner populist support for his recently proposed jobs bill.
“Last week, I laid out a plan to not only pay for this jobs bill, but begin to pay down our debt over time,” the president said, during a speech at Abraham Lincoln High School. “It’s a plan that says if we want to create jobs and close this deficit, we have to ask the wealthiest Americans and biggest corporations to pay their fair share.”
Colorado is portrayed as a pivotal, must-win state for presidential candidates—including Obama—in the upcoming 2012 election.
“The story of the campaign of 2012 is, Obama is going to go to places like San Francisco and Los Angeles to raise money to spend in places like Colorado,” Denver-based analyst Eric Sondermann told the Denver Post.
