A man in Colorado said he intentionally left his son unbuckled when he crashed his car, officials said on Thursday.

Nathan Weitzel, 31, previously pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity to seven charges involving the August 2016 crash.

He pleaded guilty this week to attempted murder, reported The Denver Channel.

Weitzel said he had used cocaine before he intentionally crashed his car into several vehicles while traveling around 75 miles per hour, according to court documents.

Weitzel said he didn’t buckle his 2-year-old son in because “being a father was a big responsibility and he did not think he was man enough to raise a child,” according to the documents.

After the crash, he tried killing himself but was stopped by a police officer.

Weitzel’s young son suffered multiple injuries including a broken leg, reported KDVR.

The boy has since recovered.

The Denver Post reported that Weitzel will be sentenced for attempted murder on April 3.
