A four-hour meeting Wednesday with BCS Commissioners resulted in a consensus agreement for college football to finally create a playoff system, according to an Associated Press report.
The agreed-upon four-team playoff model will have the two semifinals matchups as part of college football’s bowl system, rotating between the major bowls. And according to two sources who spoke to the AP, the championship game will be bid on like the NFL’s Super Bowl.
A committee would determine who would participate in the playoffs.
The game-altering decision comes after years of scrutiny from media, fans, and even President Obama himself as rarely is there a year where two teams stand out from the rest to play for the title. In fact, no other sport has such a postseason as college football’s where one extra game is all any team has ever received and then the polls have decided who wins the title.
