Coke cuts jobs: Coke said it will cut 750 jobs across the country in an attempt to increase efficiency.

Coca-Cola Co. on Thursday said it will cut 750 jobs across the United States, representing around 1 percent of the company’s overall workforce in North America.

Around a quarter of the cuts will be Atlanta, where Coca-Cola is based, reported Reuters.

“We must become a more aligned and unified North American group,” reads a memo from Coca-Cola sent last month, according to the news agency. “That means improving our structures, processes and systems.”

The world’s largest beverage manufacturer said the cuts will be across the board, reported The Associated Press. Affected employees will be notified in the next several weeks.

The memo also said that the company is realigning its businesses in the U.S. from seven distribution regions down to three.

The company also said that it had profit growth in times “marked by continued uncertainty in the global economy,” according to AP. The company reported a 5 percent increase in net income in 2012.

After buying the North American operations of Coca-Cola Enterprises Inc., the company now bottles around 80 percent of its drinks in the U.S., according to Bloomberg News. In February, the company said it would cut down on the distribution regions to cut cost and increase efficiency.
