Arizona Cardinals quarterback coach Freddie Kitchens had heart surgery this week, according to reports.

Kitchens, who underwent surgery, was confirmed by the Cardinals to have undergone a procedure on Tuesday night, according to ESPN. The surgery took approximately nine hours.

He began to feel dizzy and light-headed during the team’s practice before he was taken to the hospital. An examination found that he had a defect in his aorta, requiring immediate surgery.

“According to the doctors who performed the surgery, it went very well and the early prognosis is positive. The Kitchens family is grateful to everyone who has and continues to extend their support, well wishes and prayers,” reads a statement from the Cardinals on Wednesday.
