A CNN reporter in Brazil was robbed at knifepoint during her coverage of heavy rain at a bridge in Sao Paulo on Saturday.

The footage, uploaded this week, showed Bruna Macedo stepping back as a man approached her. According to the report, a man pulled out a knife.

Macedo then handed the man two mobile phones.

CNN Brazil then cut the live feed after the incident.

CNN presenter Rafael Colombo said after the incident: “It was impossible to understand at the time what was happening, if it was a homeless person passing by. But after what happened, we cut the image.”

“He threatened and she handed over a cell phone, but he knew she had two, because she has a private and a corporate one,” Colombo said.

He said Macedo “had a terrible scare” during the ordeal. She didn’t suffer any injures.

According to CNN, the network launched its Brazil office in March 2020.

“CNN Brasil brings a new brand of journalism to Brazil with a commitment to impartial and agenda-setting journalism produced by a first-rate team of reporters and producers led by award-winning journalist Douglas Tavolaro, who is well-renowned in the Brazilian media market,” the network said in a statement at the time.

“CNN Brasil has recruited more than 300 journalists, including many of the most experienced and prominent figures in Brazilian journalism.”
