Chris Wright, the mayor of Dawson, Georgia, was shot several times and is in critical condition during an apparent late-night robbery on Halloween night.

Wright, 23, was shot multiple times in the incident. His mother, who was there during the robbery, was tied up and injured during the incident, reported WALB-TV.

Wright was taken to a hospital in Albany, Ga.

“We are very upset, we are very hurt that such an innocent person can be done like this,” said his aunt, Ann Smalls.

Officials have yet to name any suspects in the case.

“On Thursday nigh, October 31st, the Dawson Police Department and Terrell County EMS were notified of a shooting on Crawford Street. Officers responded and learned that the victim was Christopher Wright, the Mayor of the City of Dawson. Wright was transported to a local hospital and is being treated,” the Georgia Bureau of Investigation said in a statement, according to WFXL.

Jessae Goshae, a friend of Wright, said that he was shot several times in the leg and is in stable condition awaiting surgery.

“I’m sorry. I feel sorry for the family, I love y'all very much and we’re praying for you,” a neighbor of Wright told WALB.
