Chris Plaskon has been identified as the 16-year-old who stabbed fellow Jonathan Law High School student Maren Sanchez--his former girlfriend--on Friday.

Sanchez died less then 30 minutes later.

Plaskon was reportedly upset that Sanchez declined his request to junior prom, which was scheduled for April 25.

Plaskon brought a kitchen knife from home, witnesses and police told the New York Daily News, which identified the suspect.

Despite his age, Plaskon may be tried as an adult.

Emergency workers rushed to the hospital and tried to save Sanchez but couldn’t, and she was pronounced dead.

The stabbing happened at 7:15 a.m. in a hallway inside the school, Milford Police Chief Keith Mello told the Hartford Courant.

A staff member witnessed part of the assault and rushed to help but was too late.

Sanchez was pronounced dead at 7:43 a.m.

“There was blood on her neck. It was awful,” said Sam Garcia, a junior at the school, as he walked home. “I saw the girl lying on the stretcher when they took her out.”

Sanchez was lauded as an honors student who was active in the drama club and other extracurricular activities.
