Chris Boyd was dismissed from the Vanderbilt University football team after he pled guilty to tempering with evidence in a rape case.

Boyd, 21, pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of trying to help cover up an alleged rape in June of a 21-year-old student in a dorm room.

He won’t spend any time in jail or have a permanent mark on his record as long as he testifies against four teammates charged with rape and doesn’t get into trouble for a year, reports the Tennessean.

The school’s vice chancellor for public affairs said that the athletic administration and Vanderbilt’s football coach dismissed Boyd from the football team and athletic program after reviewing the court hearing.

“The review concluded that Mr. Boyd’s admitted actions are clearly inconsistent with the high standards of behavior expected of our student-athletes,” she said in a statement.

Boyd was a wide receiver on the team.
