Chocolate Festival is Back

If you like anything to do with chocolate, the place to be this weekend is the Toronto Chocolate Festival.

The annual festival will begin this Sunday at Roy Thomson Hall and will run through the month of October at different venues.

The festival this year will include some of the regular favourite events.

Chocolicious is a special chocolate tour that invites chocolate lovers to download coupons to visit chocolatiers and pastry shops throughout the city where they can sample all kinds of delicious offerings.

Another fun event will be the 9-1-1 Chocolage Relay, where teams of firefighters, police, and paramedics will compete—by eating chocolate and more chocolate—for the Chocolate Bowl.

New at this year’s festival is the Toronto Luxury Chocolate Show, held on Oct. 2 at Roy Thomson Hall, where chocolate exhibitors will showcase a variety of products and services.

“The Chocolate Show will have classical music, different chefs, and vendors who are there promoting their products,” says Elizabeth Rizzuto, a spokeswoman with the festival.

Some of the other features of the show include the Chocolate Bar and Lounge, Wine and Chocolate Tasting Experiences, and the Chocolate Chef Challenge, in which chefs from all over southern Ontario compete for the title of Best Chocolate Chef.

The festival will conclude with the Sixth Annual Chocolate Ball Gala, hosted at the Palais Royale Ballroom on Oct. 21. The theme this year is Cocoa Carnival, featuring a Latin and Brazilian mixed atmosphere.

A portion of the proceeds from all the events will be donated to the Prostate and Breast Cancer Initiatives Fund.
