A man in Jilin Province walked into hospital with a fruit knife sticking out of his head after a family dispute, according to Sina News.

He arrived unaccompanied and walked from the first to the fifth floor of the hospital in Yanji City, reportedly saying that he was accidentally injured by his brother, who threw the knife at him.

A CT scan of the man’s head showed that the knife had pierced his skull by about 1.5 to 2 centimeters, but without damaging his brain, reports said. A neurosurgeon removed the implement, and the man was discharged from hospital that night.

Photos of the man with the knife sticking out of his head were forwarded on Sina Weibo over 30,000 times, and many netizens expressed amazement at his nonchalance, nicknaming him “calm brother Yanji.”

Some people questioned whether the images had been Photoshopped, and asked if they had been verified.

One blogger commented: “This news is actually very depressing. Why didn’t his family accompany him? Why didn’t the person who injured him accompany him? Why didn’t other people on the scene go with him? Is he a nobody on the edge of society or a fool ignored by others?”
