A man in China became unable to move from the waist down after playing video games for 20 hours straight at an internet cafe on Jan. 28.

As the man was carried out by paramedics on a stretcher, he repeatedly called out to friends asking them to finish his game, according to Chinese media.

The unidentified man reportedly started playing the game from the night of Jan. 27 continuously through to the afternoon of Jan. 28 at an internet cafe in Jiaxing city of Zhejiang province, China.

The man discovered he had lost sensation in his lower limbs as he was trying to go to the toilet, and called out to friends for help, reports The Daily Mail citing a Chinese source.

One of his friends who was present was quoted as saying: “It seems he had lost sensation completely, and couldn’t move at all. We had to call for an ambulance.”

A video released online shows paramedics and the man’s friend lifting the man from the computer station to the stretcher.

The man is reportedly currently being treated at the hospital.

According to local media, after news of this incident broke in China, online commenters have speculated that the man had developed symptoms similar to deep vein thrombosis, which they say can occur when confined to tight spaces over long periods. Other commenters urged gamers to take a break and move around every hour to avoid this situation.

Video game addiction has become a major issue in China, a country with over 350 million online gamers, and this kind of occurrence is not uncommon, MotherJones reported.

In Feb. 2017 a Chinese man was sent to hospital for coughing up blood after a nine-hour gaming session. Media at the time reported that as the paramedics arrived, the man repeatedly asked for help to sit up as he was on the verge of winning the game, Shanghaiist reported.
