A former banking official was charged with purchasing at least 45 properties worth $160 million using forged identities at a court in Shaanxi Province on Tuesday.
Popularly known as “House Sister,” Gong Aiai was deputy head of the Shenmu County Rural Commercial Bank in Yulin City. She earned her nickname earlier this year, after netizens broke her corruption story in January.
Gong denied charges that she bought two fake household registration identities or hukous for her and her daughter to purchase properties in Beijing and elsewhere, claiming she did not realize it is illegal to hold multiple hukous, and that the documents were issued by police.
Four former government employees were also trialed for their part in the misdeeds. A verdict is expected to be issued at a later date.
