Hong Kong - The China Grievance Union (CGU), said to have more than 80,000 members, has recently received intense suppression from the Chinese communist regime.

This comes as a result from CGU members’ announcing their withdrawal from the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), and its affiliated organizations. According to CGU spokesperson, Ms. Shen Ting, these withdrawals have been made public in Hong Kong.

Ms. Shen said the recent crackdown was the outcome of a direct order from Politburo Standing Committee member, Zhou Yongkang. Shen emphasized that the suppression would not work, and will only make them stronger, like Falun Gong under its persecution. The suppression will only trigger more people to quit the party.

After the meeting, held in Hong Kong by CGU on March 5, a petitioner in Jinan City, Shandong Province, named Zhang Jinfeng, was sent to a labor camp and sentenced to one year and nine months. The sentence was merely for her joining the 1,000 plus petitioners’ who were supporting the rally at the plaza in Quancheng. She was the first petitioner sent to a labor camp for joining CGU.

Jinan Municipal Public Security Bureau threatened CGU member, Li Hongwei, and his Jinan lawyer, Ni Wenhua, not to take any action in rescuing Zhang. They were also prohibited from being interviewed by foreign media.

In addition, 46 of the 48 Shanghai petitioners, who wanted to join the CGU meeting this March and last November, had their Hong Kong permits revoked. Petitioners Chen Qiyong and Zhang Ying were detained at Guangzhou Customs when they were going to Hong Kong at the beginning of March. Their passports were also revoked.

Shen Ting claimed the suppression was a result of the regime’s fear of a domino effect that the public withdrawal from the CCP by CGU members would cause.

“Zhou Yongkang personally ordered that before June 4, they will eradicate our organization in its infancy, because we publicly announced quitting the CCP. It is what they fear most,” said Shen

However, Shen emphasized, “Their suppression will only make us stronger, more determined to unite together, and more sober. Since the petitioners do not have any wish for the CCP to continue its rule, their reaction is to quit the party. I think the suppression will only make them come back stronger and stronger, and more and more powerful.”

Shen believes the outcome of the persecution of Falun Gong is a current example that the regime’s actions will only speed up its downfall.
