A 4-year-old boy in Hunan Province was caught with 20,000 yuan ($3,257) in his schoolbag, which he planned to gamble while playing cards.

The boy’s teacher told his parents that the cash was discovered in the backpack while looking for his homework, China News reported.

When questioned by school authorities, the child said he had seen his mother place the money in a cupboard at home two days earlier, and took it while she was out.

He added that he thought adults who gamble with cash look “cool,” and this had inspired him to play cards with his friends.

Apparently the boy’s mother had since been trying to find the money, which she needed for a business deal.
