Xi Jinping Gains Control, With Allies Appointed to Top Leadership

China’s 19th National Congress, the quinquennial reshuffle of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) leadership, has concluded with the balance of power tipping in current leader Xi Jinping’s favor.
The number of allies Xi was able to appoint to China’s top decision-making body, the seven-member Politburo Standing Committee, is a sign of his hold over the Party.
